Port Aransas Celebrates 100 Years with Old Town Festival

When: Saturday, October 17th at 9:45am

We’re inviting everyone from Pioneer  to gas up those golf carts and join us in the parade as we represent Pioneer Beach Resort! Decorations are welcome, of course, but not required. We will head out from the Pioneer boardwalk, so meet us there this Saturday morning at 9:45am. It will take approximately 30 minutes to drive the golf carts down the beach from Pioneer’s boardwalk to Port Aransas.

Want to be in the parade, but don’t have a golf cart? We have an alternative “ride” for you – a tractor pulling a trailer with seats! Just call or text Alice at 361-298-0343 or email her at activity@pioneerrvresorts.com by 9am on Saturday if you need to reserve a seat.

Line up is in the Presbyterian Church parking lot on Alister Street and the parade will begin at 11am. You can find full schedules of events at portaransasmuseum.org

Guess what starts May 22,2015!  Dinner in the rec hall from 4:00 to 8pm and then on Saturday and Sunday breakfast from 7:30am to 10:30am and lunch from 11:30am to 2pm.  Come and enjoy good food.

Making Memories with Chris and Gary Lubitz

My husband, Gary, and I were the second workcamping couple and third RVers to stay at Pioneer RV Resort when they first opened.

We were literally there ‘from the ground up!’ We worked at the park for 9 ½ years and not only do we consider it our ‘first home’ in retirement, but we also consider those first guests and the owners as our ‘family of friends’!

My husband and our friend, Roy Barnett, (who passed away last year) built many of the things still in use at Pioneer…picnic tables, roadside fence, cabin decks, fish cleaning house, original boardwalk etc. etc. I worked as Activity Director for the first three years back when Gary and Roy cut mesquite to cook the hamburgers for our Buck-A-Burger Friday nights. I taught line dancing where Pepper amazed us with her ability to add extra steps and never lose a beat! I recently saw Betty on Facebook with the quilters – the needlework group we affectionately called Stitch & Bitch.

Where you now do a New Year’s Day Polar Plunge, my friend, Laura, and I jumped in the pool each New Year’s Eve and she became known as the Pioneer Mermaid. Gary and Roy built the mailroom that I still see in Facebook pictures and I worked as mailroom clerk for its first two years. From the mailroom I went to the office as Reservations Clerk greeting many wonderful guests over the years. It’s also where I trained your (now) manager, Susan Brown!!

Talk about memories….they are MANY and all are wonderful! It is such a blessing to see how Pioneer has continued to grow. I remember when we started the Activity Program. I always felt that if we created an atmosphere where people felt welcomed and had reasons to come together they would become ‘family’ and it’s apparent that has, indeed, continued year after year. We are proud of our part in making Pioneer what it is today and even prouder of those who have continued the legacy.

Keep up the good work!! Our love to ALL!!

Chris & Gary Lubitz

Another Successful Yard Sale & Craft Bazaar in the Books!

Ceramics Booth
Yard Sale Crowd at Pioneer Beach Resort

It definitely did not rain on our parade this weekend! On Saturday we had another really great Yard Sale & Craft Bazaar. Campers and the locals of Port Aransas perused and purchased crafts and art from the artists while visiting with each other and making new friends. Share your spoils from the yard sale/craft bazaar with us on our Facebook page!

Making Memories with Heidi Schneider

I can say that this last year being the first time staying at Pioneer Beach Resort, we arrived as strangers; however, left with a feeling we had an extended family at heart. I can say that some of the actual “Pioneers” (old timers) who traveled to Pioneer Beach Resort from all over the U.S. & Canada for a number of years made us feel quite welcome and were very knowledgeable regarding restaurants, sightseeing, etc.

Of course we can’t forget Bingo night with the young man who was the Bingo announcer. He made Bingo so much fun that it became one of our favorite activities for game night. Nancy, the DJ, was awesome and her husband Bob knew all about fishing. So for those fishermen out there, if you see Bob, ask him where the best fishing spot is.

Then there is Pepper, who made us feel so welcome at the New Years party along with the rest of the group at our table that they kept us laughing the whole time we were there. One of my most memorable experiences there was to see that there were actually individuals who went in the pool on New Years Day for the Polar Bear Plunge. Now that took courage to do that on such a cold day!

I call Pioneer Beach Resort the Disneyland of camping…never a dull moment. We are looking forward to spending more time at Pioneer Beach Resort in the near future to acquire more wonderful memories and newly made friendships.
